My group and I had a conversation over Google Docs discussing what our lesson plan was for our Smart Board project. Charlene and I were the students and Chelsea was our teacher. We decided to review vocabulary words of the plant cell.

Project #9
Final Report for PLN
My personal learning network has improved this semester. I've managed to find many people in the education department who can help me throughout my career. I believe that the most important part of my PLN is to interact with people across the globe and find the best technology to use in my future classroom. My Pinterest account and Twitter have probably been the most beneficial sites for me this semester. I will continue to use my PLN for my career. It helps me organize sources and group them by personal or educational categories.

2. Teachers Know if you have opened books and spent time reading the information with the new tracking software, CourseSmart, on computers for textbooks. It shows the teacher how many times a student opened the book and for how long. After analyzing the data, teachers concluded that students procrastinated yet still made good grades on the quizzes. This made the teachers think "is the course too easy or is the book not a good enough source of information?"
3. In my opinion, CourseSmart is a waste of time. Regardless of how good quizzes and tests grades are, students will lie and procrastinate because it is their choice on how much effort to put in what what study habits work best for them. If you have students read from a textbook more than you teach, what are you there for? Everyone learns better when they learn hands-on and engage in activities; not just reading a book. My teaching strategies will less likely revolve around a book and more around in-class participation This way you can see and understand how each student views things and how the way they interrupt ideas and techniques.
4. If I were a student and my professor tracked my study habits I would lie, especially if I already knew what the book was talking about. I could open the e-text and leave it opened while doing something completely different and my professor would never know. Like I said earlier, teachers should be more focused on their teaching techniques than how many students are reading the book. If you teach me well enough, there is no need to read facts out of a book!
5. If I talked to the teacher of the class in the article I would ask "why do you care so much about how long students are reading the book?" I would also ask why don't they take the key facts out of the book and put them into their lesson plans? Students should be doing comprehension quizzes on what was discussed in class rather than reading a book.
6. The students of that class are probably thinking the same thing I am "why am I being tracked? The only thing that should matter is my quiz and test grades." So I would ask them how they felt about the CourseSmart program and if they think it helped them or if they just lied about the amount of time they actually read the textbook.
7. My comment to that article would be I'm glad teachers are concerned about our study habits, but why are they concerned about how much time we spend reading a book when they should be concerned with how well we are comprehending the information?

This week I was assigned Andrew M, a 4th grader in Mrs. Geldes class. He wrote a paragraph about his homeland Nebraska. He said they are the number one state to grow soy beans and corn, the 911 system was created there, they have the biggest chicken show, and he asked "what is your number 1 fact? and what is your home like?"
In my response I told him that I was from USA and that I had no idea about any of the facts he described in his post! The one thing I said he could improve on for his next blog was to make a space after every period and always capitalize the first word in every sentence. They I went on and said what Alabama was like and that I was originally from Wisconsin, and that I enjoyed reading his blog.

This week I read Logan's blog in Mrs. Morris's class at Leopold Primary School in Victoria, Australia! His most recent blog post was about his Easter break. He told how he had an Easter egg hunt and had lunch with his family. Next, he talked about his hobby for BMX riding and told about all of the new tricks he learned how to do. Then, he talked about his nature walk with his family at Ocean Grove and how he saw a 200 year old hollow tree and they found butterflies "escorting" them to their car. Last, he talked about his friend's 10th birthday party and they just went to skate-parks.
My comment was just telling him who I was and where I was from. I mentioned that I miss Easter egg hunts and that my Mom still gives me and Easter basket every year. I also told him how I've never met anyone who's hobby is bmx riding and that I've always wanted to try! Then I reminded him that nature is a beautiful thing and wished him good luck on the rest of his blogging!

This week I was assigned to Mrs. Morris's blog site Primary Tech and on April 8th she posted "Benefits of Blogging by Linda Yollis and class. She posted a YouTube video that Mrs. Yollis created explaining why blogging is a great way to educate students.
In my comment I simply introduced myself and said it seems like everywhere I turn there are more and more teachers incorporating blogging into their classrooms. I also said how it is a great way to spark students creativity and imagination. I told her that I definitely plan on using blogging when I become a teacher and I thanked her for sharing Lidia's video.

She gives the steps and procedures about how to start and educate students-- especially about safety, how to comment correctly, and the terminology of blogger-- to expand their writing, reading, and interacting skills.
In my comment I told her where I was from and that she has inspired me to start my own student blog assignments once I become a teacher. I thanked her and hoped that my students would be just as excited to blog as hers are now!

My TEDx Talk by Brian Crosby was a great video to see the education level students are at now days. He says that the students have had a narrow curriculum since the beginning of school that that is where the problem starts. Brian has technology incorporated into his classroom and lesson plans. He really lets the students get involved and do hand on experiments. The kids loved the projects and they remember what they researched and answer questions to work on comprehension skills. Brian also talks about his class blogging and Wiki pages. His balloon project would be very fun to do and the students can be creative and unique, especially when kids can use the technology and create a video to design their "experience." The actual video that they had in the balloon was amazing! The best part about his project was that they all got to interact with different people around the world! I would definitely do a project like this in my classroom!
Paul Anderson is very inspirational. His idea of the Blended Learning Cycle is very effective. He combines online, mobile, and classroom learning spaces with engaging, exlopring, explaining, expanding, and evaluating new ideas which he translates to "quivers". His disk mirror demonstration is a great way to get the students attention which will lead to a question to start the learning. Next, is to investigate and have students experiment. Then he makes a video, which lets him review and lets him be able to do other things. Elaboration is the next step, which can go form assigning them reading to diagrams and explaining the physics and the importance of it. After you elabortate, review with the students in small groups and ask them questions to check their understanding. The last step is the summary quiz to test them on what they just learned. This is a great way to get students involved and get them on the right track to learning new things. I love how he believes that someone hasn't really learned something until they can explain it to someone else!
Final Project Progress Report
My group's final project is coming along quickly. We have all recording completed. A few more changes and it will be done. As a group, I think we have done a good job with having an interesting story plot whilepointing out the key points as to how to survive in EDM310.

3. Create a new Board and label it Teaching Ideas.
4. Pin as many creative or educational ideas you see to your Board that would be useful in your classroom.
5. Write two or more paragraphs of what ideas and techniques you came across and why you think they are beneficial. There are always new projects and ideas people share so I would advise you to search the Education category more than just once for this assignment! Pin away!
Response
I created this blog post assignment to show students that Pinterest can be beneficial to any teacher. Since I am going to be an elementary school teacher, I need to have ideas and projects for any grade level and subject and I need to keep things hands-on and interesting in order to keep my students intrigued. There are hundreds of new art projects, organization ideas, and teaching methods posted every day which is why I think it is important to constantly be thinking of how to improve lesson plans and assignments. I know there was already a Pinterest blog assignment, but I think having students follow people of their choice and telling why they pinned an idea is more rewarding them making them choose from a particular list of people and saying why they followed them. My intention of this way of Pinterest is to look more into ideas people come across rather than how to use Pinterest. The students may even keep adding to their teaching board even after edm310 if they have their freedom to chose who and what they Pin.

This week's post from Langwitches blog site is about educating teachers on why and how to use media in their classrooms. It emphasizes that all teachers need to incorporate blogging into their classrooms because it is a new writing genre and can expand reading and writing skills, get connections for the future, and improve their presentation skills.
There is a method introduced for continuing blogfolios throughout a students school years (K-8). Each page is one grade level and has two main sections: Classroom blog, and student blogs. The Classroom blog explains the teacher's and students responsibilities regarding the blogs. The student blog section explains new skills, categories, reflections, and examples of learning artifacts for each grade. Personally, I think this is a very effective method because it incorporates all the teachers and students at the school so everyone is kept up to speed. I know I will be one of the up-to-date with technology teachers at my future school since technology is the future. This blog really makes me want to get my students involved with blog posts.
My comment stated that I think this method is a great idea. It lets students actually see their improvements in the classroom and I look forward to using this method in my future teaching career. I also said that I'm currently an elementary Education Major at USA and that our professors are getting us technologically prepared for our future jobs.

This week's blog had nothing to do with education. It was strictly about the flood in Buenos Aires that Silvia got word of on her way home from visiting her family. She said the water rose in her mother's apartment by 1 meter and she asked for people to donate for supplies. I did not comment because it has nothing to do with education and the least of her worries is reading my comment about how sorry I am that this tragedy happened.

This week I was assigned to Andres, a student in Miss Mac's class. His blog was about Whale sharks. He stated that they are the second largest fish in the world, they prefer living in warm water, and eat plankton. My comment was just introducing myself and letting him know I never knew those facts about that type of whale. I also asked why such a big shark like that would only eat plankton? I Told him he did a great job and to keep up the good work!

This week I read Emily's blog from Mr. Seyfert's class in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Her blog was about a book called "Uglies" by Scott Westerfield that she read. In the post she compared herself to a character in the book, Tally. She said they were similar because they were both adventurous and loves trying new things. Next, she said they were unlike each other because Tally wanted to be like everyone else. In my comment, I told her who I was and that I'm actually originally from Wisconsin. I told her how much I was thrilled to hear that she like to be different and that her post inspired me to read the book! I ended the comment with saying great job and good luck with blogging!

I had the same girl Emily this week from Mr. Seyfert's class. This week she wrote about an article she read in the Time For Kids magazine about internet safety. She listed the different groups and organizations that were created to help protect kids from harmful internet information. She then went on and talked about ways to prevent internet corruption such as not giving out your phone number or address unless you know it is confidential. My comment to on her blog was just saying how I never knew there were so many different organizations and that I was glad to know she read the Time For Kids magazine. I also told her to keep up the good work!

I was assigned a kids blog who's name was Basketball #1 (talk about safety of students). This student is in junior high and is in Mrs. Krebs class blog. The blog had a video posted from YouTube about bullying and it was amazing to watch. It really showed the effects bullying has on others. My comment was just stating that I was a student in edm310 and that I enjoyed watching the video and how I could relate to it. I also said how I hoped that that particular student didn't bully anyone because it could really hurt someone. I wished them good luck with blogging!

Mrs. Cassidy's Skype Video
I think Mrs.Cassidy is an amazing role model for future teachers! For her to start and create her own way of teaching through technology is very inspirational. I love all of the techniques and ideas she shared with us.
First off, teaching her students how to use the internet is a key factor in learning and blogging. So in order for her to teach about it, she had to learn about it herself, which is why I am thankful for this EDM310 class! I have already learned so much and I will continue to expand my technology knowledge throughout my teaching career.
Another important issue that caught my eye is how Mrs. Cassidy incorporates technology into her lesson plans and teaching. I love how she created a class blog for her students. She kept in mind their safety by keeping each student's blog to a first name basis and not posting personal pictures. She said depending on the year, the students may be assigned one blog a week, maybe two. It's also a great way for parents to see their child's improvement throughout the school year. In the video she made, some of the students said how blogging and helped them become better writers and how excited they get when they receive comments and feedback on their own work. She also talked about how the internet is a great place to collaborate ans learn from other people, which I completely agree with!
I am almost positive that when I become a teacher, I will be having a class blog. There is so much more freedom and knowledge when using a computer. These two things together make for great learning skills. For example, I might assign my students to read a book for class then have them write a blog summarizing the book and why they did or did not like it. Another thing I will encourage my students to do is to use Wiki, which is a place students can ask any questions and have people from around the world answer them.
The one thing I am most worried about once I become a teacher is if my faculty and administration will allow me to do the blogging and if they have the technology to do so. Having support from another staff member at the school is a great help, just like Mrs. Cassidy had who helped her pursue her idea of using technology.
In conclusion, "technology isn't going away," Mrs. Cassidy says and I agree with her. The better technologically literate I become the better. I have learned so many different techniques to use and sites to get help from and I am truly thankful for technology, otherwise my hand would hurt from writing all of this on paper.

Blog Post #9
Mr. McChang Volume 4
Are my kids having fun? The most important question a teacher could ask his or herself. Mr. McClung works for the improvement of his students, not for the reputation from his peers. This is something to keep in mind for any teacher. As long as the kids are having fun and learning, there is nothing else to be worried about. I feel the same way as Mr. McClung, and I hope to stay true to my methods of teaching and not let what my peers say or think effect that. He also realized that he depended on his old lesson plans and wasn't as creative as before. This makes me want to make sure to keep my creativity and change going every year that I teach and improve at least one thing every semester. I really enjoy coming up with lesson plans and EDM310 has helped me find many different techniques and ideas to incorporate into my lesson plans.
Mr. McChang (2010-2011)
This year's lessons from McChang were ones I will remember in my future teaching years. He again expresses that one should be more worried about their students liking them than other teachers. Being an outsider is okay. I love the fact that he is close enough to his students that he can sit and chat with them at lunch and he incorporates blogging in his lesson plans! He sounds like the type of teacher I want to be.
Another good key point is "not touching the keyboard." His advice from Mrs. Barron showed him to never take control of a task when teaching something because the students wont be as engaged and won't learn as much. I know when I was trained at my job, some of my co-workers would tell me how to do something but would do it for me, and I would forget how to do it the next time. This is mainly because a lot of people are visual and physical learners. They learn better when they are doing hands-on activities. Keeping your lesson plans constantly changing and starting new tasks are good ways of not getting to comfortable with your teaching routine, which will result in a better school year. Mr. McClung has inspired me to start my own yearly reflective blog in the future!

This Is How We Dream: Part 1 and 2
Writing with Multimedia is going to become very important in the future and as teachers, we should know how to use technology and learn how to write with multimedia. Students can prepare research assignments with videos and never have to worry about the library hours or books that have been checked out. The information will be more available and easier to get a hold of since it's coming from the internet. Videos can increase the knowledge of topics because it can be more visualized rather than just a bunch of written text. I believe Writing with Multimedia is crucial for our students futures.
Am I prepared to write with multimedia? Yes, because I understand the importance of learning to write with multimedia. On the other hand, I'm still learning several different tools and places to find relevant information over the web. By the end of the semester I will hopefully be fully prepared and ready to always write with multimedia.
Will my students be able to do this? Yes! I will share all the information I have learned with them and get them ready for their futures. They will be able to use it for school projects and even when they enter the professional work field after college.M y students will be well prepared, know how to think critically, and be able to use technology to learn on their own.
Carly Pugh
Carly's answer to the "design-an-assignment" blog post uses Youtube videos to create a playlist that expresses her ideas and techniques as a teacher. I think this idea is close to Mr. Miller's dream of writing with multimedia. Instead of writing a paper on her ideas about teaching, she show them through a collection of videos that match her outlook on teaching. I usually use Youtube to learn new things, and for research. I think the playlist is a great idea! I may even create my own playlist one day. It will let me show other teachers, students, and peers what I believe.
The Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies
These videos were quirky and different. They put a funny, realistic outlook on viewpoints in EDM310. To be successful in EDM310, you must do your work on time and not procrastinate. The EDM310 for Dummies video showed how we felt about the first few weeks of this course. I have stressed a lot over this class trying to get everything done on time, but I don't have that problem anymore because I've figured out when and the ways to do these assignments. I've taught myself how to use devices, organize my desktop, and how to access other people's blogs to gather information.
The videos were very creative and fun to watch. I would probably base my video on the nehind the scene work done in class. For example, show all of the assignments due every week, all of the window tabs you must have opened in order to do your work, what types of videos you watch, and a schedule to help you not procrastinate. Personally, I always slpit up my plog post assignment between 2 or 3 days and do my C4T, C4K, and C4C assignments all at the same time. I would aslo show how important it is to check the class blog daily and to always attend required class days. My theme would probably be "The Life of an EDM310 Student."
Learn to Change, Change to Learn
I agree that it's the teacher's responsibility to get students ready for the future and the future will be based around technology. Cell phones, laptops, ect are must have devices now days. I do agree that using computers in a classroom are okay, but I believe cell phones just cause distractions. I also agree that school is just one of the many places children learn. Other places are at home, in the community, museums, and online. There is a classroom based system and we could have a community based system. Schools need to expand their standards of places and subjects to learn. They also need to focus more on creativity and how to use technology in an educational manner. EDM310 is preparing future teachers to express and teach theough technology, multimedia, and a network to all people and schools.
Scavenger Hunt on Web 2.0
Edmodo is a social network where teachers and students can share their ideas and discoveries and even ask questions. After you create your account you can pick which subjects to follow such as professional development, computer technology, social studies, math ect. This network will definitely help my knowledge and tools for expanding my teaching techniques in my classroom. People even share blog posts on how to use technoloy and codes for in the classroom. some of the links I could even share with my students for them to use on their own. Technology is advancing so quickly!
Animoto is a video editing site. It allows you to incorporate video clips, text, and images into one presentation. This could be very useful in the classroom and you could really keep the students attention with all of the different types of media throughout the presentation. Students could also learn to use this site and creatw their own presentations which would spark their creativity and knowledge of technology.

By the end of the semester I will hopefully be fully prepared and ready to always write with multimedia.
Will my students be able to do this? Yes! I will share all the information I have learned with them and get them ready for their futures. They will be able to use it for school projects and even when they enter the professional work field after college.M y students will be well prepared, know how to think critically, and be able to use technology to learn on their own.
Carly Pugh
Carly's answer to the "design-an-assignment" blog post uses Youtube videos to create a playlist that expresses her ideas and techniques as a teacher. I think this idea is close to Mr. Miller's dream of writing with multimedia. Instead of writing a paper on her ideas about teaching, she show them through a collection of videos that match her outlook on teaching. I usually use Youtube to learn new things, and for research. I think the playlist is a great idea! I may even create my own playlist one day. It will let me show other teachers, students, and peers what I believe.
The Chipper Series and EDM310 for Dummies
These videos were quirky and different. They put a funny, realistic outlook on viewpoints in EDM310. To be successful in EDM310, you must do your work on time and not procrastinate. The EDM310 for Dummies video showed how we felt about the first few weeks of this course. I have stressed a lot over this class trying to get everything done on time, but I don't have that problem anymore because I've figured out when and the ways to do these assignments. I've taught myself how to use devices, organize my desktop, and how to access other people's blogs to gather information.
The videos were very creative and fun to watch. I would probably base my video on the nehind the scene work done in class. For example, show all of the assignments due every week, all of the window tabs you must have opened in order to do your work, what types of videos you watch, and a schedule to help you not procrastinate. Personally, I always slpit up my plog post assignment between 2 or 3 days and do my C4T, C4K, and C4C assignments all at the same time. I would aslo show how important it is to check the class blog daily and to always attend required class days. My theme would probably be "The Life of an EDM310 Student."
Learn to Change, Change to Learn
I agree that it's the teacher's responsibility to get students ready for the future and the future will be based around technology. Cell phones, laptops, ect are must have devices now days. I do agree that using computers in a classroom are okay, but I believe cell phones just cause distractions. I also agree that school is just one of the many places children learn. Other places are at home, in the community, museums, and online. There is a classroom based system and we could have a community based system. Schools need to expand their standards of places and subjects to learn. They also need to focus more on creativity and how to use technology in an educational manner. EDM310 is preparing future teachers to express and teach theough technology, multimedia, and a network to all people and schools.
Scavenger Hunt on Web 2.0
Edmodo is a social network where teachers and students can share their ideas and discoveries and even ask questions. After you create your account you can pick which subjects to follow such as professional development, computer technology, social studies, math ect. This network will definitely help my knowledge and tools for expanding my teaching techniques in my classroom. People even share blog posts on how to use technoloy and codes for in the classroom. some of the links I could even share with my students for them to use on their own. Technology is advancing so quickly!
Animoto is a video editing site. It allows you to incorporate video clips, text, and images into one presentation. This could be very useful in the classroom and you could really keep the students attention with all of the different types of media throughout the presentation. Students could also learn to use this site and creatw their own presentations which would spark their creativity and knowledge of technology.

In this week's post, Mr Richardson elaborates on the fact that current teachers in the U.S don't intertwine technology into their classrooms. What he doesn't know- which I informed him about- is that the next several generations of teachers will be technologically literate. Thanks to classes like EDM310, we will be ahead of, or at least up to par, with the technology and teaching strategies when we become teachers.

This week, Richardson responded to an article by Seymour Papert in 1998. His article was simply stating that digital technology is moving us into a period where learners can learn on their own time. Mr. Richardson explained that we know where we came from, but where will we end up? He also goes to saying we need to find a compromise between "the public good of community school and powerful freedom to learn," and how we extend the freedom.
My comment was simply agreeing with both Pepert's and Richardson's point-of-views. Yes we have advanced in digital technology, but we need to learn how to teach students while using this technology. The freedom part would come from letting students explore the world using their technology and assigning research projects. Richardson more importantly talked about how we could extend the freedoms to those who don't have access to the technology yet. His article really made me think.

PLN Progress Report #1
My PLN
I chose to use Simbaloo for my PLN. So far it has kept me very organized and all of my resources are easy to find. I have added some websites that I have found over this course and have made my own personal tiles for them such as Popcorn Maker and Flipping The Classroom. Pinterest has become a big part of my PLN. I am always finding cool new ideas and techniques which I can make tiles for in Simbaloo. I plan on finding more information blogs and people to follow for my PLN!

Randy Pausch Last Lecture
Randy Pausch is very knowledgeable and intelligent. His video Randy Pausch Last Lecture was created for his kids to show them how to live their lives and to teach them important lessons learned throughout life. It made me think about all of the dreams I had as a child and whether I accomplished them or never succeeded. Randy is all about teaching fundamentals, "double fakes", and experience.
Learning and teaching fundamentals are a key factor when dealing with education. As long as you have the basics down, everything else will fall into place eventually. "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." Along with this saying, is the meaning "double fake." It's the way of teaching making students think their learning something else. For example, playing football starts out as learning how to tackle, block, catch, and throw. As you conquer these skills and start playing games, you also learn sportsmanship, dedication, and leadership. Always be prepared because luck is where preparation meets opportunity. You never know what you might learn when given a situation.
Randy advised us on how to help others achieve goals in his lecture:
-- Show gratitude
-- Be earnest
-- Don't complain; just work harder
-- Be good at something: it makes you valuable
-- Find the best in everybody
I will definitely keep all of these in the back of my mind when I become a teacher. Randy also talked about never setting a bar for your students. Always tell them they can do better. I remember my teachers' had standards for how we did our work, but they never did say our work was good enough. This taught me to keep working hard and strive to get better every day.
In my opinion, Dr. Pausch's lecture was life changing. Not only did he give great advise, he gave his personal experiences in life and showed how they effected him. This video has made me appreciate life more and to really think about how and what I teach my students so they can learn the most knowledge possible in the least amount of time. He was a great role model and I'm sure he changed many lives.

Project #10
Popcorn Maker
I plan on teaching 2nd and 3rd grade students which includes all the necessary subjects like math, science, reading, and social studies. Since there is a lot of material to cover, I plan on using this program on the web called the Popcorn Maker. It creates videos by combining maps, video clips, pictures and more into one. So instead of clicking out of one window to show something else in another window, you can show everything in one video! It may be a little time consuming but it will be all worth it. It would also keep students intrigued because they wouldn't know what's coming next!
I would use this program by creating my own videos on topics and emphasize on certain aspects by inserting maps, quotes, directions, ect. For example, if there was a video the students were watching about a historical event, I could "pop in" a few questions or facts that the students should focus on while watching the video. Another example could be if the students were watching how to do a science experiment, I could include the do's, dont's, and important steps while the video was showing the experiment in action.
I believe this program could help benefit the learning process of students because it incorporates multiple resources into one discussion. This maximizes the knowledge of a topic, which will benefit students in the long-run. Also, by including different resources into one video, your eliminating the distraction factor of students trying to follow which tab your going to look at next.

In the video The Networked Teacher, By Wendy Drexler, it explains why students need teachers. One aspect would be to guide students accurately when researching for a topic. There are a lot of websites that use incorrect, bias information. If students bring these false ideas to their teacher, the teacher can correct them so they have the right knowledge. This would then improve the true information about a topic over the internet when the student posts his or her blog.
When given a topic to research, students often read blogs or articles from well-known professors. If the student were to comment or ask questions to these professors, their teacher could teach them how or in what way to say things. This teaches the students communication skills. In the future, they can respectfully ask and comment on posts in a positive way.
Another way teachers can benefit students when giving a research assignments is by helping them to organize their work. Organization is key for a successful article or blog. This helps the flow of the information and it can help by giving more details. Along with organization, teachers hope to better their students and hope help navigate themselves through the future. Watching "A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment", by Wendy Dexler, I learned how important freedom is to students. The girl in the video explained that students will be more successful with their assignments when they can do them how and when they want. This aspect teaches them responsibility and engages creativity. When comparing the girl's PLE to my PLN, my PLN looks weak. I should probably get more organized like she is. This video made me think about a lot when viewing a students perspective.

Summary #1
This student was required to post 5 sentences about anything. She chose to describe the beach. She talked about the birds flying, clouds moving, the sandy beach and the wavy ocean. The problems I saw were that she started each sentence with "I can see" and she wasn't very descriptive. The comment above me was based on critiquing this problem so I chose to give her advice on how to make her sentences more creative.
"Hey Eleanor! I could really visualize the beach with all of the different images you talked about! To improve your sentences even more, try adding some details into the images you describe. For example, what type of flag is moving? What kind of birds? Where is the sandy beach? I enjoyed reading your blog!"

"Roses are red, Violets are blue. This poem is for just for you! I love my mommy and daddy and they keep me feeling happy! My friend Nyia is always happy! I love to move a lot! I hope you enjoyed this poem!"
In my comment to Miss Hailey, the author of this poem, I simply told her I am a student at USA and said I loved how her poem was short yet sweet. The only suggestion I made was that on her next poem, maybe use different, more descriptive words other than "happy."

If You Built A School
Krissy Vensodale's post If I Built A School" was very inspirational. She described creative yet effective techniques for a successful school. The school walls would be full of neon paint and comfortable seats in the classrooms. She would have a school bus which would take them on community service events, career fairs, and universities. She would completely abolish state tests and curriculum with project based learning, and passion. Students would get take-home work to do on their iPads, Tablets, ect. It wouldn't be about regulations but about developing trust, respect, an"d knowledge of using technology. And to top everything off, a very thoughtful parking sign for every teacher to show how much they are appreciated. Sounds like a school I would want to go to!
If I were to build my own school? Where do I start?! I would definitely paint all of the walls with chalk paint. Teachers would all have smart boards and take workshops on how to use them. Students would get either laptops or iPads to learn how to use technology for several different things. There would be field trips at least once a month to museums, colleges, aquariums, community service events, and many more! Students would be assigned their own blog page to express themselves and be creative with their writing skills. The cafeteria would be like an enormous living room/kitchen where students could lounge after receiving their healthy meals. There are so many more ideas, but I am going to stop here.
Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir
Wow!! 185 people all harmonizing together and not even close to being in the same room. It amazes me how even though they were over the internet, no ones video was delayed. I wonder how Whitacre came up this this idea, and how he got the specific singers as he did.
In the NPR interview with Eric,he says he got the idea from a friend and posted a blog to call out any aspiring singers. He put the video up and people individually recorded themselves, then sent it to Whitacre. Scott Haynes volunteered to edit all of the videos together; making sure they all started at them same time. Technology is amazing the way it can bring such unity.

In the video Teaching In The 21st Century, by John Strange, -originally by Kevin Roberts- teaching in the 21st century must revolve around being technically literate in my opinion. Roberts believes that teachers are the filter of knowledge. This, in fact, is correct. Since anyone can gather information from the internet, teachers need to engage with students and tech them how to use it exceptionally well. Engaging this knowledge by assigning projects with internet based research required but yet can still let them kids be creative. These projects will then give students the skills they need for the future, such as researching how to fix a car. As an educator in the future, I feel like technology will definitely out-do the knowledge and wisdom of teachers, but it will never out-do the methods and techniques to teach students how to do hands-on activities or to how research a topic.

Katie Gimbar's, Mrs. Minafo's, and Dr. Lodge McCammon's videos were all very interesting and effective ways to excel in a classroom It is a fact, that not every student may be at the same learning level, and this helps conquer those problems. Standing within all of the students instead of in front of the students, gives the students more comfort and attention. Students will be more obligated to ask questions and engage when they can be closer to their teacher. Why it is this way? I'm not sure, but interacting and engaging is the key to understanding and solving a problem.

It may be a little time consuming but it will be all worth it. It would also keep students intrigued because they wouldn't know what's coming next!

I remember when I was younger and I would get so tired of just listening to my teacher talk, but now teachers can really make a lecture interesting! It can also increase your knowledge about something by explaining it in different ways! This week's blog post was about the "Inklewriter" which is a interactive story designer. Here, you can create your own story in separate sections and link them all together with a key word or phrase. It keeps the reader on his or her toes because they don't know what is coming next. This could be very useful in the classroom to encourage students to be creative.

Langwitches Listening-Comprehension-Podcasting
The first post I read from the Langwitches site was the "Listening-Comprehension-Podcasting" blog. The first statement that caught my eye when reading the post was that is takes 70+ times of someone hearing a word to remember it! It is important to attach a certain feeling to a word so that there is a meaning for they way it will be used in the future.The post emphasizes on editing podcasts. The author states "it gives the learners the opportunity to see their voices, read the sounds, manipulate the sequence of sentences" to better remember what they are saying. I agree that listening-comprehension is very crucial when learning a different language or words for the first time.
The post gives an example of editing podcasts. There were second graders recording stories as podcasts then editing them each student recording a sentence. They then would listen to each sentence and remember what it said. Next, they would logically place it into the story where it needed to be. It was a very successful project and the kids also loved hearing themselves. They were comprehending, collaborating, manipulating sounds all in one!This post taught me a lot about how a person's brain works.

The first grade class project was adorable!!! The "Flat Stanley Podcast" was a very smart project! It taught the kids pronunciation, writing skills, locations around the world, what to do in these locations, sounds that transportation vehicles make, and many more other educational ideas. My favorite part was when the girl went to Alabama and learned how to say "roll tide". The students were excited to make the podcast which makes the idea that much better!
Who would have ever thought that a first grader could be so detailed, well-spoken, and excited about doing a school project! While reading their own writing, the kids had to learn how to correctly say the locations and keep a steady, clear speaking voice. I really like the idea that they mailed this little Stanley guy, so that the students could be creative and choose anywhere they wanted to research. Researching these places is also a good start to the future project these kids will have.

WolframAlpha Search
After I put Compare Populations of India, China and the United States into the search bar of WolframAlpha I found that the population of China is 1.35 billion, India is 1.21 billion, and the U.S is 309 million. The population density is jaw dropping! India has 1,058 people per square mile, and China having 376 people per square mile, while the U.S has only about 83 people per square mile. This fact by itself shows that India has 12 times as many people than the U.S does! China also has more than 4 times as many people as the U.S. Along with these facts, the people of Chinese that either speak English or are learning it is 318 million people. This is more than the U.S population alone which is 309 million.
One of the comparative searches I did on WolframAlpha was between a Pitbull and a Wiener dog. I searched these two types of dogs because I have been trying to decide which kind to get. The female and male height of the average pitbull is 14-24 inches, whereas, the wiener dog on average is 5-11 inches tall. The weight sizes are very different. The pitbull can weight up to 65 pounds and the wiener dog only about 32 pounds. This could be a major factor to my decision because I would want to be able to pick up my dog. It also told me that types of dogs shed moderately.
The next comparison I researched was an apple compared to an orange because those are the most common fruits I eat. I found that an apple has 91 calories while an orange has 71. An orange may have less calories but it has more fat in it than an apple comparing 303 mg (orange) to 273 mg (apple). From the data, it shows that an orange has more fiber, protein, calcium, and vitamins than an apple. I think you can figure out the healthier fruit to eat!
This search engine website is very resourceful. Anytime you or your students have a hard time comparing something, just pull up this website. Whether it's choosing between dog breeds, fruits, or even colleges, this website will show you the facts. I will be using this website in the future and will pass it on to my students.

Wow! The internet is so important to peoples' social lives. Who would've ever thought that Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube would be the most popular websites in the world! But this fact is also quite scary. For every 5 minutes a person spends reading tweets or news feeds, they could be doing searches on the web to become more intelligent. Yes, the internet is very resourceful, but you have to actually make an effort to find facts and data. These days a lot of people just use the internet to communicate with each other. On the other hand, in the media count, there are several searches on Google daily, hopefully some are actually meaningful and informational searches.
In the future, when I become a teacher, I hope to use the internet to educate my students. Whether its encouraging them to research on their own or showing them data I found from the internet. It is very important that my students learn how to use the internet and not just for Facebook and Twitter.

Peer Editing Videos
In the two videos "What is Peer Editing" and "Peer Editing With Perfect Tutorial", I learned how to criticize a peer's writing in a positive way. There are three important steps. The first step is to give compliments explaining what you liked about their article. For example, telling them your favorite part or how you liked their topic. Then, make suggestions on how they could make their writing better. A couple ways to make suggestions would be to advise them on using more creative words or adding on to a sentence to make it have more clarity. The third step, is making corrections including grammar, punctuation, ect. This video gave me many different points to acknowledge when commenting on my peer's writing. It will even help me in the future for when I need to critique my students writing as well.
The video, "Writing Peer Review Top 10 Mistakes", was adorable! All of the students did a great job of showing how not to peer edit. Meany Margaret was my favorite. There are many different ways to positively give criticism of a writing. Suggest how to improve someone else's paper like how you would want them to suggest to you how to improve your own! Being pushy, mean, or loud is not the way to help someone fix their writing. The more positive the better; that way your peer won't get defensive towards you.
As for the peer editing I did for the C4C this week, I chose to do it publicly. The reason why I did it this way was because there was really no major problems with the writing except a few missing commas. If it were more severe, I probably would've positively critiqued it publicly then privately told them specifically what they needed to revise. That is the way I would want someone to do it for me.
Assistive Technology
The Mountbatten is like a type writer for the blind. As the student brailles, the machine announces what is being brailled. It can save files and transfer files to a computer. This machine also converts the braille letters into print and displays in onto a screen. It helps to incorporate blind students into the classroom. More machines similar to this need to become invented so the blind won't feel like they are left out of the classroom. I would definitely use it in my classroom for if I have a blind student they can still interact in class discussion by typing what they want to explain.
Professor Art Karshmer form the University of San Francisco created a very useful invention for the blind. It is a device used for math problems. There are blocks with braille and visual numbers on them. The student can put these blocks on a grid so they will be able to vertically line up mathematical problems. Before this invention, the blind student would have to position the numbers horizontally. This can dramatically improve math skills for the visually challenged. I would highly recommend my blind students to use this invention!
I never knew how reliable an iPad can be to the blind! In the video,"iPad Usage for the Blind", it shows a blind man and how he can effectively read, search the web, and many other tasks using a voice over program. For example, he would tap once for the options available to him said aloud and twice if he wanted to choose an option. If the iPad were to ding, it means that there is no item to select on the home screen. Sliding three fingers from right to left turns to page for you. It is incredible how advanced technology has become and it has really benefited the visually challenged. If I ever had a blind student I would really recommend them buying an iPad with voice over to stay up to date with activities.
Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
Vicki Davis is a teacher in the southern part of Georgia. She effectively incorporates technology with learning. In her classroom, her students create this virtual world on the computer called Open Sims. My guess is it's similar to the Sims computer game from years ago. Davis encourages her students to research on their own and she eventually found that her students were teaching her! What kid wouldn't want to create their own virtual video world?! Unique way to learn if you ask me.
In my classroom, I personally don't think I will ever be using anything as advanced as a video game program since I will mainly be teaching 2nd graders. One the brighter side, computers may become handy! My students could learn how to use the internet and search for information needed for certain subjects such as history or reading. They can also start to learn how to type on a computer or even play educational games. Technology is becoming more popular in classroom every year.

Did You Know?
The video "Did You Know" by John Strange was very factual. It amazes me how much technology has improved since it was first invented. In the video, Strange states that 48 hours worth of YouTube videos are downloaded every minute! Also, that in one minute 11,491,629 SMS messages are sent world wide.These two facts alone are eye opening. Technology has become the main focus of human living and in future years it will become almost impossible not to have technology all around us. From computers to cellphones, people world wide should be taught accurately and efficiently how to control and operate any technological device.
In the video, Strange emphasizes that English-speaking Chinese will soon outnumber the native speaking English! This fact alone is quite scary. I'm not quite sure how the Chinese learn English whether it's in school or through technology, but the Americans really need to step their game up. We have all of this technology and we need to put it to use! Americans have become ridiculously lazy over the years and I'm not sure why. I don't know if it's because we have technology to do things for us or we just don't care to learn how to learn things on our own, but it is really hurting where we stand in the world. 25% of India is already smarter than the entire United States according to the video. That is quite embarrassing.
Another good aspect of the video was the point about jobs. Strange emphasized that the top jobs we will have 10 years from now don't even exist yet. We need to use technology to prepare for these jobs since it is practically taking over the world. Next thing you know we will have robots as maids just like in those futuristic movies! Get fluent in working with technology now so you won't be behind in the future.

In the video Mr. Winkle Wakes by Mathew Needleman, schools are not the same as they are now. The high school I went to now has a computer for every student, smart boards in classrooms, and televisions everywhere. In the school Mr. Winkles went to, there were desks in a line and students were taught threw taking notes and learning from a teacher. In the future, there honestly might not even be a need for teachers because of how advanced technology is becoming. Students could just watch videos everyday and print out notes instead of listening to a teacher lecture and have to write pages of notes. Scary thought, but it could become true.
Another point in the video is the technology used in businesses and in hospitals. There are more ill people surviving now than there were 20 years ago because of the technology we have. For example, oxygen tanks, lasers, and x-ray machines have become extremely beneficial over the years. In businesses, people can expand their profits world wide because of Skype and cell phones. They can communicate oversees by visually interacting with one another on a computer screen. Incredible if you ask me! Technology plays a major role in our lives today.

Ken Robinson is a very smart man. He believes that educators now have to prepare children for what will be in the future which we do not know of. The unpredictability is extraordinary but yet we must teach them what we know they must have knowledge of for them to be successful such as numbers and letters. Robinson also elaborates that creativity is as important as literacy. Children are not afraid to be wrong and will take chances. This fact is key in being creative, yet he believes schools are taking creativity our of education because they are not allowing mistakes to be made.
Schools focus more on reading, writing, and arithmetic rather than music, art, and dance. Which pretty much is just getting us ready for the university level of education. Now days, people do not necessarily need a degree to get a job, all they need is determination, creativity, and common sense. Robinson defines creativity as a the process of having original ideas that have value. This idea of creativity is probably what sparked the inventors of technology today. Without creativity in people would not have thought outside of the box and invented something they envisioned in their mind. I do agree with Robinson that creativity should be more expressed in schools. You never know what some people could create and do when they use their creative side of their brain.

I think Pinterest is an amazing way to express one's creativity and it also shows many useful ideas from other people. Pinterest could be useful to me by seeing all of the different classroom decoration ideas people have up and the creative techniques people have posted to educate students. Lesson plans, the organization of it, and student use are some of the ways Pinterest could be beneficial. There are many different ways to teach the basic subjects in school, but with Pinterest you can find creative ways to teach from other teachers whom have a Pinterest. There are several folders, documents, and images used when you are a teacher and Pinterest can help to organize all of those items because it has different "boards" you can chose from when you want to remember a certain resource. Students can also benefit from Pinterest. For example, if they have a group project to do, they can create a certain board and collaborate all of their ideas together in that specific board. I plan on using Pinterest for all of my teaching techniques and decorations when I finally become a professional.

About Me
My name is Callie Marie Amond. I am 19 years old and a sophomore at the University of South Alabama. My major is Elementary Education. I chose South Alabama because my family lives across the bay in Fairhope and I wanted to be able to visit them occasionally. My family and I are originally from Neenah, Wisconsin. We moved down here about nine years ago because my Dad transferred jobs. I have one brother named Drew, my mother, LeAnn, and my father Drew. My brother is a finance major here at USA as well. So far, I have really enjoyed South and I plan on graduating from in here in 2015.
When I was a little girl, I used to always pretend to play teacher in my parents basement. I would use my current school books and pretend to sit in front of a class and teach. My mom even bought me some posters and supplies to encourage my little fantasy. In my real classes at school, I would help teach my peers what they didn't understand. From then on I knew that my passion was teaching others. I chose elementary education because I feel that it is the most crucial time from learning in child's life. These six to seven years are when students begin their study and disciplinary habits. Personally, my favorite grade was second, so I have been leaning towards hopefully teaching second to third graders. My only challenge is to become patient with the students and to help discipline them in a positive manner.
My interests include volleyball, painting, shopping, spending time with my family and friends, and helping others. I have played volleyball consecutively for 6 years, year-round, and I will never get sick of it! I just recently started painting pictures on canvases. Usually, I just take a picture and recreate it with paint. Something about painting just relaxes me. I definitely got my creative and "artsy" gene from my mother. Shopping is my stress reliever I guess you could say. Every time I am stressed or mad, I just go to the mall by myself and vent by looking at, trying on, and buying clothes. I like to dress comfortable yet stand out. Another big part of my life is my sorority Chi Omega! I am very involved in school activities and community service which I have always loved doing. I love all of my sisters and I am truly grateful to be apart of the organization.
Future Classroom
Once I have become a teacher I will try my best to educate every one of my students. One of my techniques will be to create fun, yet memorable songs or activities my students will enjoy. I know for me, songs have always helped tremendously! For example, one of my teachers taught us a song to remember the colors of the rainbow in Spanish and another to remember all 50 states. It is a fun yet effective way to incorporate learning.
Another method for teaching my students will be through hands on projects. Science is a great subject for this! Weighing, measuring, and calculating experiments can really effect one's learning capacity. For example, mixing certain elements together and seeing how it changes is very memorable. I remember making "goo" one time and I'll never forget how much I learned about the elements on the periodic table.
The next approach to continue successfully teaching my students will be creating an achievement board. Every student will get a star for every A they make on a test or good deed they do. At the end of the year I will reward them with a prize. I think discipline is very important in growing up. Every time a student misbehaves, a star will be taken away. I will clearly explain what the problem was and why they should not act that way so they will hopefully learn not to do it again.
I am hoping to teach second or third grade. In my classroom, there will be "cubbies" for every student so they will feel welcomed and cared for. I will also create a comfortable lounge area where the children can interact with each other. Socializing plays a big part in a child's life and what better place to do it at then a place you go to everyday! I will have posters up of positive encouragement and of educational table and maps. I'm not sure exactly what subject I will be teaching but I would not mind teaching a little or everything. Eventually, I will have all of the necessities for a positive learning environment and hope to have a positive impact on my students' education.

In Mr. Pausch's video, I could really relate to the things he was discussing. I am a procrastinator and I get stressed out a lot. So working on my time management could really help my issues. He made me want to set goals and come up with a plan. For example, instead of waiting until Sunday to do all of my EDM310 assignments, I could incorporate an hour or two a day in between school and work and complete my assignments little by little. This would create less stress and I wouldn't have to worry about cramming everything in at once.
Another memorable point Mr. Pausch made was creating a to-do list. This would keep me organized and I could determine when to do things. He stated to do "the ugliest thing first", which I completely agree with. If you start with the hardest or most complicated task first, that sets the difficulty standard and things can only get better from there. This technique really relates to stress. You are relieved after you finish something challenging, and become less stressful which may lead to more motivation to finish other tasks. The video taught me very good time management techniques.
My name is Callie Marie Amond. I am 19 years old and a sophomore at the University of South Alabama. My major is Elementary Education. I chose South Alabama because my family lives across the bay in Fairhope and I wanted to be able to visit them occasionally. My family and I are originally from Neenah, Wisconsin. We moved down here about nine years ago because my Dad transferred jobs. I have one brother named Drew, my mother, LeAnn, and my father Drew. My brother is a finance major here at USA as well. So far, I have really enjoyed South and I plan on graduating from in here in 2015.
When I was a little girl, I used to always pretend to play teacher in my parents basement. I would use my current school books and pretend to sit in front of a class and teach. My mom even bought me some posters and supplies to encourage my little fantasy. In my real classes at school, I would help teach my peers what they didn't understand. From then on I knew that my passion was teaching others. I chose elementary education because I feel that it is the most crucial time from learning in child's life. These six to seven years are when students begin their study and disciplinary habits. Personally, my favorite grade was second, so I have been leaning towards hopefully teaching second to third graders. My only challenge is to become patient with the students and to help discipline them in a positive manner.
My interests include volleyball, painting, shopping, spending time with my family and friends, and helping others. I have played volleyball consecutively for 6 years, year-round, and I will never get sick of it! I just recently started painting pictures on canvases. Usually, I just take a picture and recreate it with paint. Something about painting just relaxes me. I definitely got my creative and "artsy" gene from my mother. Shopping is my stress reliever I guess you could say. Every time I am stressed or mad, I just go to the mall by myself and vent by looking at, trying on, and buying clothes. I like to dress comfortable yet stand out. Another big part of my life is my sorority Chi Omega! I am very involved in school activities and community service which I have always loved doing. I love all of my sisters and I am truly grateful to be apart of the organization.
Future Classroom
Once I have become a teacher I will try my best to educate every one of my students. One of my techniques will be to create fun, yet memorable songs or activities my students will enjoy. I know for me, songs have always helped tremendously! For example, one of my teachers taught us a song to remember the colors of the rainbow in Spanish and another to remember all 50 states. It is a fun yet effective way to incorporate learning.
